Farm Bureau award

The Livingston Parish Farm Bureau received recognition for their contributions to agriculture this past year during the recent Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention in June.  The Star Awards are presented each year to parishes for their accomplishments in sustaining and promoting the farmers and ranchers in Louisiana.  Livingston Farm Bureau Parish President Charles Kemp, left, accepted the 3-Star Award from Louisiana Farm Bureau President Ronnie Anderson, right.

1915 girls basketball champion

The 1915 Louisiana State Fair high school girls basketball champions from Denham Springs may have been the most dominating team in school history. They defeated Baton Rouge High in the finals, 54-2, culminating a three-year run with a 27-3 record in which they generally doubled the score over most opponents they played. Team members were R.G. Brannon, S.C. Minton, R.F. Benton, J.C. Davis, captain L.F. Wilkinson, L.G. Smiley and subs Underwood and Jones.

Livingston Parish Animal Shelter

The Livingston Parish Animal Shelter has many dogs in need of loving homes. The shelter is located on Hwy. 190 in the Town of Livingston next to the water tower. The shelter does not take in dogs from the public and only takes in dogs that are called in by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 686-7798 and leave a message.
