SATSUMA – Two projects at the Satsuma interchange of Interstate 12 will affect eastbound traffic until Wednesday, according to the state Department of Transportation & Development.

From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, June 26, through Wednesday, June 28, I-12’s eastbound on and off ramps at Satsuma (Exit 19) will be closed intermittently, said Kris Wascom, project engineer for DOTD District 62 in Hammond, on Monday.

This closure will allow crews to install temporary concrete barriers, Wascom said.

Eastbound motorists can exit I-12 at Walker South Road (La. 447) at Exit 15, go north to U.S. 190 to reconnect with Satsuma Road, he said.

Meanwhile, I-12 eastbound will be reduced to one lane from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the same three days, Wascom said.

The one-lane area begins a mile west of Satsuma and runs to a half-mile east of Satsuma, he said.

This lane closure will allow crews to install temporary concrete barriers, Wascom said. One lane will remain open at all times.

Motorists can take U.S. 190 as an alternate route to avoid the nightly lane closures, he said.
