LIVINGSTON – A Hammond man faces 10 years in prison after pleading no contest to two drug charges, according to District Attorney Scott Perrilloux.

Rashaud West, 23, pleaded no contest to possession with intent to distribute Schedule II controlled dangerous substances (methamphetamine) and possession with intent to distribute Schedule II controlled dangerous substances (cocaine).

Judge Robert H. Morrison sentenced him to 10 years with the state Department of Corrections on each count, with the time is to be served concurrently, Perrilloux said.

According to police reports, Livingston Parish Sheriff Office detectives received information on May 6 on a person in a white Chevrolet Cobalt riding on McCarroll Road with an assault rifle.

Detectives located Cobalt at an address on McCarroll Road and observed two people standing next to it.

When the two men recognized the detectives to be law enforcement, Rashaud West and the other man fled on foot into the woods.

While detectives were in pursuit of them, West threw a pill container and a large cellophane bag on the ground. He was caught and taken into custody.

The cellophane bag contained 190 units of methamphetamine and the pill container had 12 individually packaged bags of cocaine.

Perrilloux said due to the amount and the way the narcotics were packaged, West was charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule II controlled dangerous substances (methamphetamine) and possession with intent to distribute Schedule II controlled dangerous substances (cocaine).

Assistant District Attorney David Guidry represented the state.
