WALKER --  It’s challenging enough for Walker opponents to figure how to slow down one or two offensive threats. When the Wildcats are clicking like they did Friday against Central, it becomes all impossible to find a way to win.

Four players scored in double digits for WHS in a 69-58 win over Central, though that isn’t much new.

The element that underscored how tough the Wildcats can be was a little different, though: All five starters scored at least 5 points in a single quarter and two did so in each of the first two quarters.

With so many holes in the dam to plug, Central (7-13, 1-5 District 4-5A) couldn’t keep up as Walker (20-7, 5-1) raced to a 40-27 halftime lead and cruised from there.

Jalen Perkins led the Cats with 15 points, while Jacobi Scott buried three of Walker’s 8 3-pointers and notched 13 points.

The win, coupled with Zachary’s upset of Scotlandville, elevates Walker into a first-place tie in the district standings with two weeks left.

To maintain that perch, the Cats likely have to run the table before a showdown against the Hornets on Feb. 14 in Walker. That road begins Tuesday when WHS looks for a season sweep of Live Oak when the teams collide at 7 p.m. in Watson.
