ZACHARY -- One bad quarter hurt Denham Springs High in the first meeting with Zachary this season.

Déjà vu struck the Yellow Jackets again Tuesday, although they managed to throw a mighty scare into the Broncos before falling 57-53.

Zachary bolted to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter before Denham responded with a strong three quarters.

The early hole was too deep to dig out of, despite freshman Keondre Brown’s 27-point eruption, with 12 points in the final quarter when the Jackets (10-21, 3-4) charged back.

Brown buried four 3-pointers, one in each quarter, to help fuel the comeback. Free throws continued to plague DSHS as it was just 14-for-23 from the stripe.

The Jackets get back in action at 7 p.m. Friday when they travel to Central. DSHS topped the Wildcats in the first meeting, 60-47.
