WATSON -- Tremeeka Spikes scored 14 of her team-high 20 points in the second half as the Denham Springs High Lady Jackets rallied to beat Live Oak 49-42 in a District 4-5A game on Friday.

Denham (24-4, 8-0) only led once in the first half, 15-14 midway through the second quarter, and did not take the lead again until Kamryn King’s 3-point basket at 33-32 with1:51 left in the third quarter.

“It was a tough game,” DSHS coach Shelly Laprarie said, as her team extended its winning streak to 11 games in a row.

“(Live Oak) made some adjustments since the first game. They’ve got two good players in Presley (Wascom) and Dijone (Flowers).”

Laprarie saw the game as a learning experience.

“We were dominated in the half on the road and you learn from that,” she said.

Spikes also led DSHS in rebounds with 10, five leading to followup baskets.

“She was good at reading the ball off the goal and getting a good shot,” Laprarie said. “She was getting second chances for us and finishing it.”

“We were realistic,” Live Oak coach Michele Yawn said, “We were outsized.

“Our plan was to make them work hard … get them doubled down in the post and make it more difficult,” she said.

Flowers led Live Oak (18-11, 3-5) with a game-high 21 points. She made three 3-pointers and pulled down 5 rebounds.

Harmony Johnson added 6 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Jackets, while Christina Canale had 6 points.

Denham build a 39-34 lead with 7:26 left in the game on Canale’s short jumper.

Live Oak twice cut the lead down to one point, both times on three-point baskets by Flowers.

But DSHS outscored Live Oak 6-0 in the final 2:41 on an inside basket and two free throws by Desiree Jones and Flowers’ bank-in shot.

Live Oak opened the game by building a 10-3 first-quarter lead on Flowers’ layup.

The Lady Jackets followed that LOHS run with a 10-2 run to open the second quarter and its brief 15-14 lead before Live Oak outscored them 8-2, capped by Flowers stealing an in-bound pass and scoring with 0:02 left to lead 22-19 at the half.

The Lady Eagles led 25-19 early in the third quarter Zyriah Pink’s 3-pointer, but Denham gradually chipped away at the lead until King’s basket gave them the lead.
