ALBANY -- Down one key inside player and with another in early foul trouble, the Denham Springs High girls might’ve been in a tough spot Saturday afternoon in a makeup game at Albany.

Instead, the Lady Jackets’ senior-laden backcourt contingent made sure there was still plenty of firepower.

Sparked by six 3-pointers from four different guards, DSHS grabbed control in the first two quarters and cruised past the Lady Hornets 51-30.

Denham drained three treys in each of the first two periods, accounting for 18 points on a 29-15 halftime advantage.

Caroline Taylor and Kamryn King buried two apiece, while Christina Canale and Jayley Clouatre also connected from deep.

That long-range assault was enough to offset Tremeeka Spikes’ absence for a family funereal and Maia Robinson’s struggles with fouls as the Lady Jackets (25-4) reeled off their 13th win in a row.

Albany (17-14) held its own in the second half, with Mahogany Williams leading the way with 8 points and Natalie Kelly adding 7.

The Lady Hornets get back to District 7-3A play this week, hosting Bogalusa at 6 p.m. Monday and then Sumner in a potential showdown for the district crown at 6 p.m. Thursday.

DSHS resumes District 4-5A play at 6 p.m. Tuesday when Central comes to town.
