BATON ROUGE  -- By now, the Denham Springs High girls should be used to taking the best every opponent can muster.

That was the case again on Tuesday when scuffling Scotlandville made a fourth-quarter push before the Lady Jackets eased away for a 56-48 triumph.

DSHS maintained its perfect mark in District 4-5A, led by Tremeeka Spikes’ 21 points and 13 from Caroline Taylor.

Spikes was especially effective in the second half with 13 points and Denham (23-4) needed every bit of production.

The Lady Hornets (9-19, 1-5) outscored the Lady Jackets 27-25 over the final 16 minutes, but a strong first half, which was punctuated by balance, was enough cushion for DSHS.

Taylor notched 9 points in the first half and forward Maia Robinson scored 6 early points on the way to 11.

Denham heads up Louisiana 16 to take on Live Oak at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Lady Jackets barreled past the Lady Eagles 63-40 on Jan. 17.
