BATON ROUGE -- Walker’s girls will be a different team a year from now, but there will be a lot of familiar faces.

A team built around a core group featuring only one senior assures that.

And when the Lady Cats get next season rolling, they will have plenty of experience, including heartache or two.

One of those came Friday in a 55-53 loss at Central.

Hannah Cowart buried a 3-pointer as time expired in overtime to lift Central to a 55-53 triumph and spoil a memorable Walker comeback.

Walker (17-15, 1-7 District 4-5A) sputtered in the first quarter and fell behind 11-3, a deficit that grew to 30-18 by halftime.

But the Lady Cats refused to wilt and came out clicking in the third quarter, with Candace Ellis scoring 12 points and Krystal Hutchinson 9 as Walker roared back to take a 41-40 lead into the final quarter.

Only it wasn’t the final quarter. Because Central (20-10, 4-4) managed to forge a tie and send the game to overtime where Cowart delivered the dagger.

Hutchinson, the lone senior, led Walker with 21 points, while Ellis notched 18. Those two combined to knock down 9-of-11 free throws.

The Lady Cats get back to work on Tuesday when Live Oak comes to town for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
