Who could it be from Livingston Parish this season? Who might shock the state and get on a postseason run? The answers to both those questions, as well as the normal playoff drama all gets started Thursday night, as the parish’s girls basketball tradition storms into the postseason.
LIVINGSTON -- For a time in the first half Tuesday , it seemed as though the Springfield girls could hang with the more talented and deeper Doyle Lady Tigers. But in the end, experience won out.
LIVINGSTON -- The Doyle boys kept their momentum going Tuesday, using good defense all game and clutch free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter to down Springfield 59-45 in District 9-2A action.
Springfield’s football program finally had a moment in the sun on Wednesday following an exasperating season, as Bulldogs offensive lineman Maverick May and long snapper Reeves Blankenship charted their respective college paths on National Signing Day.
FRENCH SETTLEMENT -- Moments after the opening tip Friday night, Doyle guard Tristan Jones swung a pass to Cameron Jones, who drained an open 3-pointer from the wing. On the Tigers’ next trip down, Eli Dawsey pulled up and connected from the same spot.
FRENCH SETTLEMENT -- In each of the past two seasons, the Doyle and French Settlement girls played to a draw, each winning one and losing one in the season series.
SPRINGFIELD -- Through all the disappointment in the win-loss column this season for the Doyle boys, the Tigers have always played tough, hard-nosed defense, which has kept them in games.
SPRINGFIELD -- When Springfield’s Sarah Simeon made the first basket of the game against Doyle on Friday, little did the Lady Bulldogs know it would be the only positive for them on this night.
FRENCH SETTLEMENT -- The Springfield girls’ hopes Tuesday night were buried behind the 3-point line at French Settlement on Tuesday night.
SPRINGFIELD -- As each member of Springfield team made their way out of the locker room after their game with St. Thomas Aquinas Tuesday night, there were no slack faces.
LIVINGSTON -- Despite a scrappy effort from French Settlement, Doyle used its size, speed and athleticism to overpower the Lady Lions and take a 62-42 victory Tuesday in the District 9-2A opener for both teams.
ALBANY -- Torrid shooting led by Springfield guard Cam Fox coupled with a less-than-stellar and short night by Albany’s Sean Sykes lifted the Bulldogs to a 78-44 rout of the Hornets on Tuesday.
