Mitchell is a 2005 graduate of DSHS who rewrote the school's basketball record book in a spectacular prep career. A two-time All-American named to four separate teams (Parade Magazine 2004 & 2005, McDonald’s 2005, EA Sports 2005) and the school’s only four-time Class 5A All-State basketball player (MVP 2003, 2004, 2005 and Best Defensive Player 2002). As a senior, he averaged 26.9 points and 10 rebounds per game, shooting a remarkable 69% from the floor.
During his freshman season at LSU, he was a started from Day 1 on the Tigers' 2006 Final 4 team and that was just the beginning of a stellar career in Baton Rouge. By the time his career ended in 2010, Mitchell had piled up 1,989 points (third in program history), 950 rebounds (sixth) and notched school records in career minutes played (4,692), games started (136) and games played in a career (137).
