On Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, John Erwin Coxe Sr. of Walker celebrated his 97th birthday with a party thrown by his daughter, Lynn Coxe Graham, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor.

"Mr. John," as so many fondly call him from his days as the proprietor of Coxe Supermarket in Walker, was slightly overwhelmed at the number of family members and recent visitors who came out to wish him well and join in the festivities and food with him.

Carolyn Coxe Smith made her uncle his very favorite cake, a homemade fresh coconut layer cake, and Nanette Mayhall made her famous white chocolate raspberry cake.

Four-foot-tall balloons in rose gold were made into the shapes of 9s and 7s, spelling out his age.

The party was attended by his daughter, Lynn, her children, Bryce Beals and Brooke Beals Beach and husband Michael Beach, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A good time was had by all.
