Arts Council of Livingston Parish

The Arts Council of Livingston Parish is calling for local artists to prepare original art for exhibition and possible inclusion in an upcoming coffee-table style book entitled, “Preserving the Culture of Livingston Parish.” Artwork can be submitted starting Saturday, Sept. 1, and the deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, Oct. 31. September will be a busy month for the Arts Council of Livingston Parish.

The public is invited to learn and explore a variety of different topics, ranging from decorative painting to learning to play the mountain dulcimer to converting old wood into vintage works of art.

The following is a list of classes coming to the Arts Council over the next month. To register, visit www.artslivingston.org and click on the “Book a Class” tab, or call (225) 664-1168.

Registration is required to participate.

Vintage Junkie Workshop

When: 6-8 p.m. on Sept. 6

Where: Arts Council of Livingston Parish, located at 133 Hummell Street

Artist Instructor: Shelly Frederick

Fee: $45 for ACLP members; $50 for non-members

What you’ll learn: Using acrylic paint and wood, repurposed from pallets, you will learn how to make your own custom sign. The class is for high school students through adults. Sign up early as seating is limited. All supplies are included in class fee.

Decorative Painting – Basic

When: 6-8 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25

Where: Arts Council of Livingston Parish, located at 133 Hummell Street

Artist Instructor: Shelly Frederick

Fee: $45 for ACLP members; $50 for non-members

What you’ll learn: Learn the basic brush strokes of decorative painting with acrylic paints in this two-session class. After class, you’ll be able to finish projects with ease and satisfaction. These quick and easy techniques are designed with the beginner in mind. The class is for high school students through adults.

Decorative Painting – Intermediate

When: 6-8 p.m. Sept. 4 and 11

Where: Arts Council of Livingston Parish, located at 133 Hummell Street

Artist Instructor: Shelly Frederick

Fee: $45 for ACLP members; $50 for non-members

What you’ll learn: Expand on the basic brush strokes of decorative painting with acrylic paints in this two-session class. In order to sign up for this class you must have taken the Decorative Painting Basics art class. All supplies are included in the class fee.

Mountain Dulcimer Class

When: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23

Where: Arts Council of Livingston Parish, located at 133 Hummell Street

Artist Instructor: Maylee Samuels

Fee: $50

What you’ll learn: Learn to play the Mountain dulcimer at the Arts Council of Livingston Parish with instructor Maylee Samuels in this six-week series of classes at the gallery, located at 133 Hummell Street in Denham springs. The fee for the series is $50, which includes all books, materials, and dulcimer rental. Fees will be collected at the first class. At the end of the session, the dulcimer can be returned or purchased for an additional $25. You may also bring your own dulcimer if you have one. Class size is limited, so reserve your place now by calling (225) 664-1168 to register and reserve a dulcimer.
