DENHAM SPRINGS -- Today’s severe weather prompted several warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service. Each bulletin included Livingston Parish.
A flood advisory is in effect until 12:15 p.m. for the Livingston, Ascension, East Baton Rouge, St. James and St. John Parish area, according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm warning is also in effect, according to the NWS.
The severe thunderstorm warning area was from Baton Rouge east to Hahnville in St. Charles Parish and from the Mississippi state line south to Thibodaux in Lafourche Parish.
Between 1 to 2 inches of rain were predicted, while winds at 10 a.m. were between 5-10 mph from the southwest, the NWS said.
At 9:35 a.m., the NWS issued a tornado warning for Livingston, Ascension and St. James Parishes, watching wind formations near Sorrento.
The warning expired at 9:45 a.m. without further bulletins from the NWS.
The severe thunderstorm warning was issued shortly before the tornado warning by the NWS.
Coastal water warnings are in effect for Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas.
Saturday night's forecast includes a 20 percent chance of rain, with west winds at 5 mph, shifting to the north after midnight. A slow-moving cold front pushing south is producing strong to severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall this weekend, the NWS said.
