A 53-year-old man died in a drowning accident on the Amite River over the weekend, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Keith Hilliard, of Baton Rouge, died after going underwater shortly after launching from Tiki Tubing on Saturday, June 19, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said in a statement.
According to Ard, deputies were dispatched to Hancock Lane in reference to a medical call. Witnesses said Hilliard jumped off his tube into the water after dropping an item but did not resurface.
Hilliard was later located, but all attempts to revive him failed, Ard said.
The exact cause of death will be pending the results of an autopsy. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, Ard said.
Hilliard is the father of LSU pitcher Ma’Khail Hilliard.
