WATSON -- Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives are trying to identify two men who loaded $1,000 on gift cards then managed to make it look like they paid for them, according to a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lori Steele said two men entered a Watson retailer, where one went to the electronics department and bought an Apple Watch.

The man selected more items and went to the front of the store.

“All good. Then, he grabs two gift cards and loads them with more than $1,000,” Steele said.

“Distracting the cashier, the suspect is then able to reach the register and hit the right key combo to show a completed transaction – meaning, he didn’t pay,” she said.

The two men left together in a crossover-style vehicle.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call (225) 686-2241 ext. 1 or Greater Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
