Fatal Crash

INDEPENDENCE -- A single-vehicle crash early this morning claimed the life of a Livingston Parish man along U.S. 51 in Tangipahoa Parish.

Michael “Dwight” Hoyt was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident around 3 a.m. on La. 40 near Independence, according to Louisiana State Police Troop L. His town of origin was not available.

The crash occurred as Hoyt drove a 2000 Toyota pickup truck southbound on U.S. 51. For reasons still under investigation, Holt’s vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and into a culvert.

The impact caused the truck to flip several times before it came to a final rest.

Hoyt was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on-scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. There were no indications of impairment and blood tests are pending.
