The Grinch will try to steal Christmas… from Maurepas.

The green, grouchy creature with a heart “two sizes too small” will make his way to the Maurepas School when it hosts its 14th Annual French Café from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29.

During the Café, patrons will enjoy food, entertainment and activities while raising funds to buy Christmas presents and food for children of less fortunate families in the community.

The theme for the 2018 Café is “Le Cafe’ De Whoville,” and it will feature The Grinch, live and in person.

This annual event has been held every year since 2005, when a group of fifth-graders arranged 16 desks into four tables for customers in the “basement” and raised $177.85.

It has grown every year since, and now the entire school participates in the festive event held on both floors of the auditorium.

Last year, the Maurepas School’s two annual Christmas fundraisers, the French Café and Santa’s Little Workshop week, combined to bring in approximately $11,753.19, the most the school has ever raised.

With that money, the school was able to bring presents to more than 100 children. It also helped provide students with school supplies, uniforms, and graduation fees.

In addition to food, patrons will be able to visit a plethora of booths, including “Santa’s Little Workshop,” “Cake Walk,” ”Raffle for a Gift Basket,” “Picture with Santa,” “Silent Auction,” and “An Ornament for a Donation.”
