The Kiwanis Club’s Lighting of the Christmas Tree at Train Station Park has been postponed until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, according to Main Street manager Donna Jennings.

The event was originally scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7, but was pushed back seven days due to the possibility of inclement weather later this week.

Cold showers are likely for much of Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, and temperatures are expected to hover between 35-47 degrees. The NWS’s seven-day forecast predicts that precipitation could bring “between a quarter and half of an inch” of rain.

Though the NWS predicts showers will occur mostly “after noon” on Thursday, there is still a 40 percent chance of precipitation that night, with a “chance of rain and snow showers.”
