Local chefs, get your aprons ready.

Registration for the 9th Annual Watson Bird and Sausage Gumbo Cookoff will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Oak Point Fresh Market.

The cost to register is $50 per four-person team, and rules and regulations will be made available. Anyone with questions may contact event coordinator Bobbi Jo Guerin at (225) 337-0041 or via email at bjg.quadarea@gmail.com.

Last year’s cookoff, held at the Live Oak Sports Complex under 4,200 square feet of tents, featured 42 local cooks who prepared roughly 250-300 servings each.

The 9th annual cookoff will take place at the Livingston Parish Fairgrounds on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019. Gates are scheduled to open at 10 a.m., with opening ceremonies slated to begin at 11 a.m.

Tickets for the cookoff are $10 apiece, and all proceeds from the cookoff will be donated to Quad Area Vets & Mission 22.

Last year’s cookoff was the third straight year the event raised money for Quad Vets, a homeless veterans facility that helps veterans rehabilitate their lives by offering housing, meals, employment assistance, transportation, education, life skills and financial training and other programs.

During last year’s event, Berlin Coxe, who organizes the event every year with his wife Bobbi Jo, said the cookoff has raised roughly $30,000 for Quad Vets.

Other organizations the cookoff has raised money for in the past include the Raven’s Outreach Center for Homeless Veterans in Baton Rouge, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and The Wounded Warrior Project.
