The Southland Christian Academy Beta Club lived up to the school’s mascot — the Saints.

The SCA Beta Club, made up of 17 students, held a school-wide food drive from Oct. 16 until Nov. 16.

During the food drive, the school had each of its homerooms collect non-perishable food items (canned and boxed goods only), and the one that gathered the most was awarded a pizza party. All told, the school collected more than 500 items for families in need in the community.

After the food drive ended, the SCA Beta Club brought it all to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, where they volunteered on Saturday, Nov. 18. Thirteen Beta members, one teacher and four parents helped sort and package food items for four hours.

For its next community service project, the SCA Beta Club and Choir will visit and spend time with residents of Golden Age nursing home in Denham Springs on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Beta members plan on singing, doing activities and passing out gifts.

Southland Christian Academy, comprised of grades Pre-K-12, is located at 7000 Gloryland Way in Denham Springs.
