BATON ROUGE – An investigation of a domestic shooting Monday night in Walker led to a car chase that sped into Baton Rouge and ended when the apparent suspect jumped off the Mississippi River Bridge, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police Troop A.

The apparent suspect eluded deputies along Interstate 12 westbound to I-10 west in Baton Rouge, where he stopped his car on the Mississippi River Bridge and jumped over the railing, according to Trooper Bryan Lee, spokesman for the Louisiana State Police.

State Police assisted Livingston Parish deputies in the pursuit once the chase spilled into East Baton Rouge Parish, Lee said.

The chase began when deputies from the Livingston Parish Sherriff’s Office were called to investigate the shooting off Gaylord Road just before 9 p.m., according to Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.

“The vehicle we were in pursuit of is believed to have been directly involved in this investigation,” he said.

The female victim was taken to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

The case remains under investigation. More details will be posted when they become available.
