DENHAM SPRINGS – Motorists in Denham Springs and those traveling near Juban Crossing should be prepared for delays and road closures in the new year.
Motorists have been watching construction just north of the Denham Springs city limits at Cockerham Road and Lockhart Road, while those using Florida Boulevard or Juban Road near Juban Crossing should expect delays.
The contract will be let this month for the roundabout at Juban Road and Florida Boulevard (U.S. 190), according to Rodney Mallett, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation and Development in Baton Rouge.
Construction is anticipated to begin in March, Mallett said. The project is expected to take two years.
The first phase will be relocation of utilities and work on drainage, which will take a year, said Kris Wascom, project engineer with the DOTD in Hammond.
“Two years may seem like a long time, but the work will be done from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., so the intersection will be open to traffic during the day, Mallett said.
This type of work was just completed at Lockhart Road and Cockerham Road and the actual work on the roundabout should start soon.
“We anticipate completion by end of March,” Mallett said, although weather may play a factor.
Meanwhile, work is continuing on the roundabout north of Interstate 12 on Walker South Road in Walker.
Mallett listed the following roundabout projects for Livingston Parish.
--In December 2018, the contract will be awarded for the roundabout at La. 16 and Walker South Road.
--In May 2019, the contract will be awarded for the roundabout at Juban Road and Buddy Ellis Road, south of Interstate 12.
