DENHAM SPRINGS – The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce is looking for people who want to change the way they see their community and parish.

Applications are being accepted for the Class of 2019 of the Leadership Livingston program.

Deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Thursday, July 19, according to the chamber.

Leadership Livingston is based on a national model used by chambers throughout the country to develop individuals as leaders in their communities. 

The program begins with an overnight retreat. Participants then attend a one-day session each month focusing on a specific topic from September through May,

The topics include government, culture and tourism, community health care, leadership competencies, judicial system, diversity, education, social concerns, economic development, hidden treasures and topics unique to Livingston Parish. 

Participants are divided into groups, which each must develop and carry out a community project.

Applications are available on the chamber website at livingstonparishchamber.org.

Applicants can expect to be notified of their acceptance within a week of the application deadline. 

An orientation meeting is set for Aug. 5. The Class of 2019 will be introduced to the Chamber on Aug. 8. The retreat is scheduled Aug. 19-20.

The program culminates on June 18, 2019, with the project presentations and graduation. 

Important dates for the Class of 2019 are:

July 19: Deadline to apply.

Aug. 5: Meet & greet and orientation.

Aug. 8: Class of 2019 introduced at Chamber luncheon.

Aug. 19-20: Mandatory opening retreat.

June 7: Final exam.

June 13: Project presentations.

June 18: Graduation.
