Denham Springs Christmas Parade

Santa Claus waves at the crowd on Range Avenue during the 2017 Kiwanis Club Denham Springs Christmas Parade. Heavy rainfall expected for Saturday forced cancellation of the 2018 event.

DENHAM SPRINGS -- The Denham Springs Kiwanis Club issued a statement regarding the decision to cancel the 2018 Christmas Parade due to the ongoing heavy rains today (Dec. 8).

Here's the statement issued by the club:

"For the safety and security of our volunteers, participants and spectators, The Kiwanis Club of Denham Springs has made the difficult decision to cancel the 5th annual Kiwanis Christmas Parade for 2018. This is disappointing for everyone involved. Forecasts have called for 100% chance of steady, moderate rain during peak parade hours. While club members considered a move to a different date, the unavailability of suitable staging areas for floats, bands and other parade attractions as well as other events prevented such a move. We appreciate the patience and understanding of all of our spectators, participants, volunteers, sponsors and the venues who worked with us (or waited for us) tirelessly during this process. See you next year for “Christmas on the Bayou.

"The support of our Sponsors go a long way toward "helping us help others." We are an active club but require successful fundraisers to support our numerous service projects.  We are a 501 (C)(4) organization and proudly boast that 100% of all funds raised go directly to the many projects we support in our community.  For that reason, The Kiwanis Club of Denham Springs would like to formally thank all of the sponsors of the 5th annual Kiwanis Christmas Parade including our 2018 Santa Sponsor, First Guaranty Bank, our Reindeer Sponsors, Plantation Management and Maison de Fleur Assisted Living, our Snowman Sponsors, 4 H Equipment, Milton Womack, Papis – Watson, Bond-Wroten Eye Center, Jason Harris, Livingston Parish Clerk of Court, Michele Crosby, Kiwanis President, Sport-n-Center, Lake Sherwood Village, Hood Dental Care, Blumberg and Associates, Jeffery’s Collision Center, Hughes Safe and Lock, Lake After Hours, Professional Title, and Jan Fairchild, Dentist.  We also wish to thank Capital One, Church Funeral Home, and Denham Springs Radiator and Glass who also made donations.

"We are calling all of the Kiwanis Club of Denham Springs’ parade applicants concerning the cancellation, their registration fee and how they are helping support our community.  As provided in the parade entry form, specifically the cancellation clause, “[i]f the Parade is cancelled due to inclement weather you [the parade applicant] will be issued a $25 credit toward the registration for the following year…”

Thank you again for your understanding and support.  Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you and yours from all of us at the Kiwanis Club of Denham Springs!

The Kiwanis Club of Denham Springs."
