DENHAM SPRINGS – A shooting late Sunday night outside a Denham Springs department store is under investigation by Denham Springs City Police.

The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter on Range Avenue, according to Denham Springs Police Chief Shannon Womack.

One party was trying to sell the handgun to another, he said.

"The gun accidentally went off while it was being shown," Womack said. "The party that was trying to sell the gun attempted to dispose of it after the shooting."

The victim, who suffered wounds through the hands and leg, is being treated at area hospital. The wounds are not life-threatening, Womack said.

Two suspects are in custody at Denham Springs Police Department.

One of the suspects will be charged with obstruction of justice, Womack said.

The names have not yet been released. The case remains under investigation.

More details will follow.
