Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 teams with Mighty Moms

Santa, atop a Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 truck, waves to children during the fire district’s annual Christmas tour through Walker. The tour scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8-9, has been postponed due to weather, Fire Chief James Wascom said, but will be rescheduled.

WALKER -- Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 has canceled its Santa tour for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8-9, according to Fire Chief James Wascom.

Wascom said Friday that the rain and weather forecast for the weekend led to the decision.

“We don’t want children out in the rain,” the fire chief said, waiting to see Santa.

Plus temperatures are expected to be around 50, he added.

Santa Claus was scheduled to ride a District 4 fire truck on Saturday, Dec. 8, covering the areas of Stations 1, 2 and 4.

On Sunday, Dec. 9, the tour would have completed the Station 1 area and visited Station 8’s area.

Santa’s tour for the four stations’ areas will be rescheduled, Wascom said, and will be publicized.

With the annual Santa tour, Fire District 4 has been helping a local food pantry stock up to fight childhood hunger.

A vehicle has been following Santa and the fire truck to collect nonperishable food items for Mighty Moms, a nonprofit organization.

Mighty Moms works with the Livingston Parish school system and Livingston Parish Library to provide food to children who might not get adequate meals.
