INDEPENDENCE – Voters renewed a millage Saturday for Fire Protection District 11 in complete but unofficial results, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office.
With the single precinct reporting, the millage passed 71-12, or 85 percent for to 14.4 percent against with an 8.9% turnout.
The proposal took a lead when early ballots were cast, which put the proposition up 5-0 for approval.
The 10-mill property tax millage is renewed for 10 years for the district in the far eastern part of Livingston Parish.
The millage will raise an estimated $17,471 annually for Fire District 11, according to the proposition.
Funding will go to purchasing fire trucks and other firefighting equipment, the proposition said.
It will also help build a building to store firefighting equipment and to serve as an office and communications center for the district.
