LIVINGSTON – Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard recently recognized one officer, Deputy Jacob Bourgeois, for making the birthday of one parish resident special.

“I recently recognized several deputies for going beyond the call of normal duty (and) how these individuals help to make the blue and white what it is today,” Ard said.

Deputy Jacob Bourgeois was recognized for his actions on Jan. 16, the sheriff said.

On that day, Bourgeois received a message from a family friend that a man with special needs was celebrating a birthday, he said.

“His dream was to become a LEO (law enforcement officer). Without hesitation, Bourgeois contacted his fellow motor division,” Ard said.

They visited with the man, wished him a happy birthday, showed him Sheriff’s Office gear and presented him a civilian badge.

“The man was elated. Soon, other LPSO deputies heard about this kind act and joined in too,” the sheriff said.

“It only takes a moment to make someone’s day,” Ard said.

“Deputy Bourgeois showed compassion and went out of his way to make the day special for this man,” he said.
