Mosquito Abatement Billboard

Billboards in the area along Livingston Parish Mosquito Abatement District 2&3 have drawn criticism from opponents of the funding proposition on the May 4 ballot.

LIVINGSTON – A meeting April 18 to inform residents on the aspects of mosquito abatement will be postponed due to the severe weather school closure at Live Oak High School.

The meeting has been pushed to 7 p.m. on April 24 at the LOHS cafeteria, according to Parish Councilman Garry “Frog” Talbert, who coordinated the meeting along with fellow councilman Maurice “Scooter” Keen.

The meeting was planned for discussion of abatement, how the proposed funds will be spent and the duties of the program.

The meeting will take place just over a week before voters will decide on a monthly fee of no more than $3.00 to fund the program.

A 100 percent chance of rain is in the forecast for Thursday, with a possibility of damaging winds and large hail, as well as threats of tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for 1 to 2 inches of rain and southeasterly winds between 15 and 25 mph.
