GONZALES – A Maurepas man died in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
David Day, 21, was properly restrained but received fatal injuries in the crash, said Trooper Bryan Lee, Troop A spokesman.
State troopers responded to a call of an accident at 8 p.m. Tuesday on La. 429 east of U.S. 61 in Ascension Parish, he said.
Day was traveling eastbound on La. 429 in a 2013 Honda Civic while Kyle Cornett, 23, of Ragley, was westbound on La. 429 in a 2005 International, the state trooper said.
For reasons still under investigation, Day crossed into westbound lane and struck Cornett’s vehicle head-on, Lee said.
The impact caused Day’s vehicle to rotate as it continued moving east where it was struck a second time by a 2015 Subaru WRX driven by Raymond Farr, 27, of Gonzales, he said.
Cornett and Farr were both restrained and were not injured in the crash.
The Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Day dead at the scene, Lee said.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from all drivers for analysis, Lee said.
