LIVINGSTON – Principals for two parish schools were approved by the Livingston Parish School Board on Thursday.

Lance Dawsey was approved as principal of Doyle High School, while Jo Saucier was approved as principal of Albany Upper Elementary.

The contracts for both principal will run through June 2020.

Dawsey has been at Doyle High as since 2007 as interim principal, teacher/administrative assistant and assistant principal.

Before that he was assistant principal in 2006-07 at Albany Middle School, a teacher at Maurepas School from 1996-2006 and teacher at Denham Springs Junior High in 1996.

Saucier was the president designee at Albany Upper Elementary in 2015-16 and a teacher at the elementary from 2008-2015.

Before that, she was a teacher at Albany High in 2007-08, a teacher at Albany Upper Elementary from 2002-07 and a teacher at Springfield Elementary from 1998-2002.

In other action, the School Board accepted the Transportation  Committee’s recommendation to purchase 10 school buses and two special education buses.

The committee met before the full meeting to hear Transportation Supervisor Jeff Frizell recommend the purchases.

The cost would be $670,133 for the 10 regular buses and $176,000 for the two special ed buses, Frizell said, after the school system takes part in a program that will reduce the cost.

The Transportation Department has 1997 model buses running routes, he said, and buses “age out” after 25 years of service.

“It’s important to get buses yearly, so when they age out we can maintain our routes,” he said.

The School Board also approved a change order for $87,801 to M.D. Descant, the contractor working on Walker High.

The change order covered removal and replacement of unsuitable soil in the front parking lot and changing a 4-foot fence to an 8-foot fence around tanks at the Career Technology Building.

In other action, the School Board named Ziler & Associates the professional of record as the architect for classroom additions at Albany High.

A similar agenda item to name a professional of record for classroom work at Albany Middle School was deleted without comment.

Revisions to four sections of the school system policies were introduced to the board.

They cover the areas of School Board ethics, Child Nutrition Program management, interrogations and relations with law enforcement authorities.

The board also approved seeking bids for band instruments for Denham Springs Junior High that were lost in the 2016 flood and band storage for Walker High.

In personnel matters, the board approved Ryan Byers and Brennan Catalano as volunteer baseball coaches at Albany High.

The board also took the following personnel actions:

--Approved the appointments of 32 teachers, 17 bus drivers, 12 paraprofessionals, 10 food service employees, 5 retirees returning to work (RTW), 4 custodians, 3 secretaries and a school psychologist, LAN manager, diagnostician, maintenance laborer, maintenance-electrician, mechanic and business services secretary-receptionist.
