LIVINGSTON -- The deputy involved in the fatal shooting this past week has been temporarily reassigned, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Louisiana State Police, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said.

The investigation followed the shooting early Friday morning at a home on 9991 Asheville in the Richmond Place Subdivision in the Watson area. Resident Jackey Sampson, a 43-year-old male, died in the shooting.

Ard said he requested the Louisiana State Police conduct the investigation.

He did not release the name of the deputy.

"It has always been our policy not to release the name of the deputy involved in this type of incident," Ard said in a statement.

He said he would not comment on the LSP probe.

"It is not my policy to comment on ongoing investigations by other law enforcement agencies," Ard said.
