HOLDEN – A Texas couple died from injuries they sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 between Livingston and Holden, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A.
The crash on westbound artery of I-12 at milepost 2 took the life of Saul and Maria Cerna of Texas.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 27–year-old Jesenia Cerna of Biloxi, MS was driving a 2001 Ford E150 van westbound on I-12. For reasons still under investigation, Jesenia Cerna ran off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.
Saul and Maria Cerna were unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Jesenia Cerna for analysis.

The accident occurred between the Livingston and Holden exits on the westbound stretch of the interstate, , according to Louisiana State Police Troop A.
The injured victim has been airlifted to a Hammond hospital
The westbound artery has been closed at Mile Marker 26, ac.cording to the state Department of Transportation and Development.
Congestion is approaching three miles.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
