recylce bin

WALKER -- The City of Walker had Waste Management remove the recycle bin located on Ball Park Road.

“The City has decided to discontinue recycling services due to continuous improper usage and contamination of recycling materials,” an announcement said.

At a recent council meeting, Chief of Operation Jamie Etheridge outlined recent experiences with the large recycling bin residents could leave recyclable materials in.

The bin was moved from City Hall to the Public Works Department office on Ball Park Road. But area residents complained about the noise when people closed the large lid and the smell.

Mayor Jimmy Watson also said people were mixing non-recyclable material in, and Waste Management would not accept it for recycling. Instead, the material was taken to the landfill like regular garbage.

Walker holds two city-wide cleanup days a year, Watson said, and recycling bins can be added.

If residents have materials they want to recycle, they can contact Waste Management for other drop off locations.
