Sylvia Vaughn Smith fought cancer with courage, grace, and dignity. She passed away on May 15, 2018, at the age of 75. She was very passionate about her gardening and flowers. A spitfired woman who wouldn't think twice about snatching you up by the "nape of your neck", she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was employed at Walmart for 15 years. Sylvia is survived by her husband of 38 years and the love of her life, Robert C. Smith; five children, Debora Marler King, Brenda Marler Stuart, Wanda Marler, Corrie Marler and Tonya Marler Betz (husband Jeff Betz); four step-children, Daryl Smith, Lavonne Smith, John Smith (wife Tina Smith) and Valerie Smith Blount (husband Alton Blount); brother, Sonny Vaughn (wife Rea Vaughn); 29 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Sylvia is preceded in death by her son, Joseph L. Marler, Jr; her mother, Annie Brisco; sister, Maxine Vaughn; and brother, Sidney Brisco. Visitation will be held at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, located 37818 Reinninger Road in Denham Springs, on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin immediately after visitation service.
