Mother Nature won the weekend, but District 4-5A baseball is back in the spotlight Monday with a pair of games that will again shuffle the middle of the bottlenecked standings.

Walker heads over to Scotlandville for a 4 p.m. game, while Live Oak plays host to Denham Springs High at 6 p.m. Both games were originally scheduled for Saturday but shifted in anticipation of the severe weather that hit the area.

Walker (13-15, 3-4 District 4-5A) takes aim at pulling even in the league standings for the first time since early in the 2017 4-5A season when the Wildcats climbed to 2-2 with back-to-back wins over Scotlandville and DSHS. Walker has won its three district games by a total of four runs – the last a 4-3 decision over Live Oak on a walk-on bases-load hit batter in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The first meeting between Live Oak (20-10, 3-4) and DSHS (16-13, 3-4) didn’t finish quite as dramatically, but it did go right down to the wire before the Yellow Jackets prevailed 2-1. Both teams have hit a rough patch after strong starts: The Eagles have lost four of their last five games and the Jackets are on a season-long three-game skid. Denham’s Jase McDonald will take the mound against Live Oak’s Sal Palermo.

Besides the 4-5A slate, Albany looks to stay afloat in District 7-3A and the final round of three-game sets between District 10-2A teams gets started on Monday.

The Hornets (11-16, 4-2) play host to district co-leader Loranger (16-10, 5-1) at 6 p.m. Albany lost both games to Hannan (13-11, 5-1) last week and needs a win to remain in the hunt.

Doyle is in a similar spot in 10-2A after taking two of three games against both parish rivals, but the Tigers will have to wait a day to get their final league series started due to a wet field at Sartwell Park.

Doyle (15-13, 4-2) is clinging to a chance to win the district when it takes on St. Thomas Aquinas (23-4, 6-0) for three games, now starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Springfield (7-15, 1-5) hosts French Settlement (10-10, 1-5) at 6 p.m. Monday in the other half of the District 10-2A schedule.
