Doyle struck early, and Andrew Yuratich hurled a complete-game five-hitter in Doyle’s 5-3 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday to even the District 10-2A series between the teams.
The Falcons scored a 10-5 win over the Tigers in the opening game of the series on Monday.
DOYLE 5, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 3
The Tigers put together a three-run first which featured an RBI single from Braden Keen and a two-run triple by Cole Mack.
STA picked up a pair of runs in the top of the third on doubles by Sam Smith and Tyler Domiano, but Tyson Stewart’s single in the bottom of the inning made the score 4-2.
The Falcons scored on a passed ball in the fourth, and Mack reached on an error in the fifth, scoring Hunter Mizell for the final margin.
Yuratich gave up five hits, three runs, one walk and struck out seven to get the win. Mason Davis went 2-for-3 and scored two runs to lead Doyle.
Luke Sweeney gave up seven hits, five runs, two walks and struck out six in a complete-game loss, while Ryan Dawsey had two hits for STA.
ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 10, DOYLE 5
The Falcons got a five-run third inning to pull away for the win after Doyle built a 5-2 lead.
Stewart had a three-run home run in the first inning, and Keen’s two-run triple in the second pushed the lead to 5-1.
The Falcons picked up a run in the bottom of the second and pulled away in the third, with Smith getting a three-run double in the inning.
Parker Stewart and John Blanchard had run-scoring doubles as part of a three-run sixth.
Keen and Davis each had two hits for Doyle, while Logan Turner and Mizell combined to give up 11 hits, 10 runs and strike out three.
Blanchard gave up seven hits, five runs, three walks and struck out seven in a complete-game win and also went 3-for-3.
