FRENCH SETTLEMENT -- St. Thomas Aquinas' Kade Bleakley threw a six-hitter and the Falcons took advantage of 10 errors to key a 14-3 win over French Settlement in District 10-2A action Thursday.
The Lions (10-9, 1-4 District 10-2A) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning after Ben Andrews and Bryant Johnson had consecutive singles to lead off the game and scored on an error in the outfield.
The lead didn't last long as STA picked up five runs in the top of the 2nd on five errors, a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single by Alex Egan. Four of the errors happened on consecutive plays.
The Falcons put together six hits (three doubles), an error and a hit batter in a 7-run 3rd inning that pushed the lead to 12-2.
After Brice Fruge, Roman Hodges and Gannon Allison singled to lead off the bottom of the 4th, Brant Smiley was hit by a pitch to cut the lead to 12-3.
The Falcons got a triple from Champ Artigues and consecutive doubles from Brandon Tallo and Egan to start the top of the 5th inning scoring the game's final runs.
Johnson gave up seven hits, 12 runs and a walk in three innings to take the loss and went 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Lions at the plate.
The teams wrap up their three-game series at STA at 6 p.m. Friday.
