Albany pitcher Brittney Turner: "What we need to work on is making simple, routine plays and not letting the mistakes get to us."

Albany’s Brittney Turner was Livingston Parish’s lone representative on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State softball team, which was released Thursday.

Turner, who was a second-team All-Parish selection at pitcher, helped the Lady Hornets advance to the regional round of the playoffs.

Hannan coach Becky Lambert was named the softball Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Hawks to their first softball championship since 2012.

Hannan, which went undefeated to win the District 9-3A crown, was down to its last strike, trailing Parkview Baptist 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning before scoring five runs defeat two-time defending champion Parkview Baptist 6-2. Hannan finished the season 26-6.

Brusly’s Mary-Cathryn Comeaux, a Southeastern Louisiana signee who went 25-1 as a pitcher, was named the Outstanding Player in softball. The Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year, had a 0.558 ERA and 288 strikeouts in leading the Panthers to their first 3A softball title since 2013, while batting .500 with 36 RBIs and 10 home runs.

St. Charles Catholic baseball coach Wayne Stein, who led the Comets to their first state championship, was named the Coach of the Year.

Sterlington’s Trey Rugg, who went 14-1 on the mound, was named the Outstanding Player in baseball. Rugg, who helped the Panthers to a state championship, had a 1.15 ERA and struck out 90 over 97 ⅓ innings while putting up a team-leading .389 batting average with 36 RBIs and eight home runs.
