SPRINGFIELD -- Trevor Freeman knocked in four runs, including a two-run single as part of a five-run 6th inning, to helpi Springfield notch an 11-4 win over French Settlement in District 10-2A action Monday.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead 3-0 in the 2nd inning on Freeman's two-run double and an RBI single from Logan Lobell.
FSHS picked up a pair of runs in the 3rd inning, capitalizing on Bulldog errors before Matt Kreutzer's RBI single in the bottom of the inning and Lobell's two-run single in the 5th made the score 6-2.
Jonas LeBourgeois and Roman Hodges had RBI singles for the Lions in the 6th inning to cut the lead to 6-4, but the Bulldogs put the game away in the bottom of the frame as Kreutzer had a two-run single and Collin Hayden produced an RBI double to push the lead to 9-4, setting up Freeman's final hit.
LeBourgeois went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Hodges had two RBIs to lead the Lions, who had seven hits and left 12 runners on base.
Freeman went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Lobell went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs as the Bulldogs collected 16 hits. Travis Freeman, Zac Wild and Kreutzer each had two hits.
Keith McKigney gave up three hits and struck out seven while working around six walks in 5 innings to get the win.
The Lions (10-11, 1-6 District 10-2A) and Bulldogs (8-15, 2-5) square off again in French Settlement at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
