HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana's home football opener against Jacksonville State has been moved up to Thursday, Aug. 29.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium and will mark the second straight season Southeastern has opened the season on Thursday, as SLU opened with a Thursday contest at ULM last season.

The Lions have opened the season on Thursday on eight occasions since the program returned from an 18-year hiatus for the 2003 season. Southeastern is 8-2 in Thursday home games during that span.

Southeastern will be meeting its former Gulf South Conference opponent for the first time since the 1978 season. The Lions are 4-6-1 versus the Gamecocks. The Aug. 29 meeting will be the first of two, as SLU will return the trip to JSU on Sept. 19, 2020.

The Lions’ home schedule also includes visits from Southland Conference foes Lamar (Sept. 21), UIW (Oct. 12 - Homecoming), Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 2) and Nicholls (Nov. 21). SLU will visit Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 7), Ole Miss (Sept. 14), Northwestern State (Sept. 28), McNeese (Oct. 5), Houston Baptist (Oct. 26), Central Arkansas (Nov. 9) and Abilene Christian (Nov. 16).

Southeastern will report to campus on July 30 and open fall practice on July 31.
