SPRINGFIELD -- District 4-5A play is on the horizon for Live Oak, so every tuneup leading that direction is useful.

The Lady Eagles made the most of a road game with Springfield on Thursday, while the Lady Bulldogs continued to try and make progress with a skeleton crew.

Live Oak raced to a huge first-quarter lead and didn’t sweat much in a 50-26 triumph.

Dijone Flowers and Jamie Elenbaas fueled an 18-4 start for the Lady Eagles (13-7), who notched a second straight win against a District 10-2A foe. Those two had 8 points in the opening quarter. Flowers played sparingly after that, while Elenbaas finished with 12 points.

Harmony Johnson shouldered much of the scoring load in the second period with 8 of her team-high 14 points as Live Oak extended its advantage to 30-10 by the break.

Springfield (2-14) competed hard in the second half, but not enough to make a dent in the deficit.

Lori Martin scored all of her 6 points in the fourth period, but no other Lady Bulldogs produced more than 3 points in the second half.

Kaitlyn Norman joined Martin with 6 points to pace Springfield, which plays host to Kentwood in non-district play at 6 p.m. Friday. Live Oak heads to Central for a non-district game at 6 p.m. Friday.
