SPRINGFIELD -- St. Thomas Aquinas turned up the defense in the third quarter to pick up a 55-37 win over Springfield in District 10-2A action Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 31-20 at halftime and rattled off the first 5 points of the third quarter to cut the lead to 31-25.

That's when the Lady Falcons turned up the pressure on defense and rattled off the next 12 points to go up 43-25. Springfield's Sarah Simeon hit a jumper to stop the run, but STA led 43-27 going into the fourth quarter.

Springfield got as close as 43-31 on Kiarra Westbooks' jumper, but the Lady Falcons closed with a 12-6 run, going 5-for-7 at the line.

STA led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Simeon had 12 points, including 8 in the second quarter, while Westbrooks added 9 and Kaitlyn Norman chipped in 7.
