Mother Nature won the weekend, but District 4-5A baseball is back in the spotlight Monday with a pair of games that will again shuffle the middle of the bottlenecked standings.
LIVINGSTON -- Colten Newsom pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Doyle pounced on six Springfield errors in a 6-0 win on Tuesday in District 10-2A play.
FRENCH SETTLEMENT -- Springfield jumped out to an early lead and held off French Settlement in a 7-4 victory in District 10-2A action on Tuesday.
SPRINGFIELD -- Matt Kreutzer went 4-for-4 with three runs and Springfield had 19 hits in an 11-1 win over Slaughter Community Charter on Tuesday.
HAMMOND – Springfield coach Michael Rutland knew he'd have to rely on some other pitchers early in the season as veterans Keith McKigney and Matt Kreutzer work into game shape early in the season.
PEARL RIVER -- Austin Fierson's one-out bunt single scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning to lift Pearl River to a 5-4 win over Springfield on Saturday.
COVINGTON -- Dale Dufrene's sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the 8th inning lifted Northlake Christian to a 5-4 win over Springfield on Friday.
ALBANY -- Albany broke open a tight game to score a 5-1 win over Springfield, and Doyle pounded out 14 hits to rally for an 8-6 win over Ponchatoula on the opening day of the Albany Tournament on Thursday.
COVINGTON -- Covington scored four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to key a 10-4 win over Springfield on Thursday.
