KILLIAN - Police Chief Dennis Hill reported Tuesday that Killian Police and Livingston Parish Narcotic Officers arrested three people at 19359 Austin St. for cooking and selling methamphetamine out of a camper trailer.

"Our surveillance showed people coming and going at all hours of the day and night for the three weeks the suspects lived there," Hill said.

Two men, Dustin Hoyt and Steven Albin, and one woman, Katina Vaughn, were arrested Aug. 3, he said.

"They were in the middle of cooking the meth when we busted in," Hill said.

Hill said ingredients found included lithium battery strips, liquid Drano, camp fuel, Sudafed tablets and ammonia.

"Quite a large crowd had gathered and they seemed quite happy that these people were leaving," Hill said.

In other police business, Hill reported that Officer Brandon Ziebar would be taking a leave of absence for an undetermined amount of time.

"Brandon has been here with us since day one. He is a great asset to the department and I hope to see him return soon," Hill said.

Hill made a recommendation to hire Walter Mattei, a former Springfield officer, as a part time officer.

Hill also recommended to hire Tim Chuvin, a member of the Killian Dive Team, as a reserve officer to help with river patrols.

Mayor Gillis Windham told Hill he heard from a bus driver that people were driving at high speeds in the town while children are getting on buses in the morning.

"I think we need more patrolling during those hours to keep our children safe," Windham said.

Hill agreed to start running radar to catch speeders in the morning before school starts.

Hill also announced the date for the rescheduled benefit golf tournament for the Killian Police Department.

"The golf tournament will be on Halloween day with a Halloween theme at Carter Plantation," Hill said.

Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. followed by tee time at 9 a.m.

"Players are free to warm up on the range during the breakfast hours at no charge," Hill said.

Hill said sponsors and four-member teams are needed.

"People can register or sign up to help sponsor the event by calling 304-3298 or by going to killianpd.org," Hill said.
