DENHAM SPRINGS – An array of country music stars will bring the sound of Nashville to Denham Springs for a day-long bash this spring.

Cajun Country Jam will feature nine acts along two stages in the Denham Springs Antique District on Saturday, May 4 – all for no admission charge. On the same weekend as the Kentucky Derby, Shenandoah will headline the event.

The country music supergroup has earned the genre’s version of the Triple Crown after winning a Grammy, a Country Music Association award and the American Country Music Award.

Other acts scheduled for the event include Jamie O’Neal, Clifton Brown & The Rusty Bucket, Andy Griggs, Lane Hardy, Sara Collins, Hal Bruni, the Allison Collins Band and James Linden Hogg.

“We wanted to bring back the Cajun Country Jam, so I talked to Mayor Gerard Landry, who wanted to see another festival in town,” said promoter Scott Innes, an air personality for Classic Hits 103.3FM in Baton Rouge. “He and the city gave us 'carte blanche' (free reign) for the event, so we’re going to give them a fun family event for this year.”

The stage at Train Station Park will serve as the focal point for festivities during the early hours of the event. A larger stage opposite the pavilion will host the evening events, including Shenandoah.

“Scott approached us about doing the event, and it sounded like a great idea to me and other opportunity to get the community together, especially since its’ a free concert,” Landry said.  “We’re excited to bring another exciting family-oriented event to the downtown area.”

Gates will open at 9 a.m. and music will begin at 11 a.m. Spectators are asked to bring lawn chairs for the event, which will be held in conjunction with Tiger Country 100.7.

The main stage will light up at 6 p.m.

“It’s going to be a fun deal, this is a great area and we love Denham Springs,” Innes said. “We want to present something that will grow bigger and bigger in the coming years.”

Roads will not close during the event, but police will guide traffic along Range Avenue for the festivities, Innes said.
