Denham Springs student places third in Mathematical Association of America competition

Natchitoches - Six students from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts were the only high school students to compete in a two-day undergraduate competition hosted by the Mathematical Association of America during the annual meeting of the Louisiana/Mississippi chapter.

Jojo Deep, a junior from Natchitoches, Albert Chen, a senior from Natchitoches, Karan Baker, a sophomore from New Iberia, Jordan Byrd, a junior from Denham Springs, Andre Bourque, a sophomore from Gretna, and Ben Walker, a junior from Mandeville, competed in the Integration Bee against math majors from Mississippi College, Southeastern Louisiana University, Northwestern State University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, McNeese State University, Belhaven University, Louisiana Tech University, University of Louisiana at Monroe and Mississippi State University.

Andre Bourque placed first and Jordan Byrd placed third in the event.

The competition teams included Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, Mississippi College, NSU, ULL, McNeese State, Belhaven University, Delta State University, Loyola University of New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana University, Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

The four-man team of Ben Walker, Andre Bourque, Jojo Deep and Albert Chen finished first in the team competition.
