At the November meeting, members of the Edward Livingston Historical Association discussed topics and prospective speakers for 2017.

The first speaker of the year will be Florida Parishes native and historian Yvonne Lewis Day on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Livingston Parish Library in Livingstion, 20390 Iowa St., where most meetings are held.

Anyone interested in parish history and geneaology is invited to attend.

Potential topics for the remainder of the year are: “Irish Research,” “The Biography of Rev. J. F. Arceneaux,” “More Tales from the Cemeteries,” “A Story of a Veteran,” “Canary Islanders,” “Presidential Assassinations,” and “The Noblets of Livingston and St. Helena Parishes.”

The Thursday, Dec. 1, meeting was held at Duke’s Seafood House north of Denham Springs with a wonderful attendance of members and guests.

Those in attendance were entertained with renditions of folk and patriotic music from the past of both America and other countries.

James Linden Hogg, Louisiana state fiddle champion in 2015, sang and used seven instruments accompanied by his dad, Jim Hogg, on the guitar.

The fiddle he used was made in 1780 in northern Italy. Some of the songs rendered were “The Town I Loved so Well,” “The Lakes of Ponchartrain,” and “The Parting Glass.”

The duo was to be featured during a festival the following Sunday at the Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge.

Membership in ELHA is available for individuals at $10 per year and $15 for families. Dues can be sent to:
