U.S. Marine Veteran Marvin Willett was one of the guest speakers at the Veterans Day program at Southside Junior High. Willett called out names of veterans in attendance to stand up and be recognized. Willett is also a former teacher at Southside.

U.S. Navy Veteran Al Venseret presents a medal to Kimberly Crenshaw, who won the eighth grade essay contest on honoring veterans. Venseret also handed out medals to Cheyenne Hughes, winner of the essay contest for sixth grade, and Corinne Murphy, the seventh grade winner.

Women Outreaching Women, a domestic violence outreach program based in Denham Springs, hosted their first annual Zumbathon/Craft festival on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Sidney Hutchinson Park in Walker. The event, which included ten vendors, 130 participants, and numerous volunteers, raised over $1,300 which will be used to support shelter operations as well as expansion to the services provided by the organization. W.O.W. partnered with Z-time Fitness, Kelly Dugas and Sons Wrecker Service, and Coca-Cola in an effort to bring awareness of this social disease to the community.
